How variable pricing works

Salik introduced demand-based pricing on 31 January 2025, replacing the previous flat rate. There are now three charging tiers — peak, off-peak, and a free late-night window — plus a separate Sunday schedule. Salik Company PJSC added 5% VAT to all charged crossings from 1 June 2026; the figures on this page are VAT-inclusive.

The rate that applies is the rate at the moment you cross the beam, not when you enter the road. A peak crossing immediately before 10:00 is billed at AED 6.30; a crossing at 10:00 drops to AED 4.20.

Time windows

Period Window Rate
Peak 06:00-10:00 6.30
Peak (evening) 16:00-20:00 6.30
Off-peak 10:00-16:00 4.20
Off-peak (evening) 20:00-01:00 4.20
Late night free 01:00-06:00 FREE

The one-hour rule

At Al Safa North, Al Safa South, Al Mamzar North, and Al Mamzar South: if you cross the same gate in the same direction twice within one hour, only the first crossing is charged. This applies per direction — northbound and southbound are counted separately.

Sunday pricing

Sundays are not toll-free. A flat rate of 4.20 AED applies all day on Sundays, replacing the weekday peak / off-peak split. The late-night free window (01:00–06:00) still applies on Sundays — crossings in that window are free. The Sunday schedule may not apply on public holidays and major events; check salik.ae for official confirmation.

Ramadan schedule

During Ramadan, Salik operates a modified schedule: peak runs 09:00–17:00 and the free late-night window shifts to 02:00–07:00. The Tarif estimator does not yet model Ramadan timings — check salik.ae for the current Ramadan schedule.
